A trip to the pumpkin patch

Every year I look forward to taking my kids pictures in the pumpkin patch. It has become an unexpected tradition of mine that we make a whole day of. Some people are really into Santa and some people are really into pumpkin patches. I'm into both. ;) I imagine one day I'll have a wall full of fall colored pumpkin patch pictures with my kids and grandkids.

An overcast day would have done wonders for these photos but the sun was nice in the moment. Honestly, the day did not go as well as I had hoped and I seriously was planning a return trip to get the pictures that I really wanted. But, alas, with Halloween just around the corner the probability of us going back up to the farm is not likely.

As a child I remember going to the pumpkin patch just once. I was a grocery store pumpkin kid so when Matt and I started dating and he took me to an actual pumpkin patch in the middle of the farm fields in Snohomish, I just knew that was the only real way to get a pumpkin. The experience you get from visiting the actual farm where your pumpkin grows is so much more exciting. Obviously. I hope it's a tradition my kids think back on fondly and take on as one of their own when they grow older.

Blooms and Macarons

Over the summer I picked up some Macadons macarons from a local farmers market to try them out. I am in a major macaron phase right now and could basically eat them all day. You may remember me posting about styling them with some gorgeous peonies. When Donna, the owner of Macadons, saw the photos she loved them and wanted to do a trade. I happily obliged.

Stripes on Stripes

Top: J.Crew | Shorts: J.Crew Factory (old) | Shoes: Soludos

I know I am totally delayed in posting these pics. September in Seattle is always such a bittersweet month. There is still plenty of sunshine and warm evenings but the light doesn't last quite as long the coldness quietly starts to creep in. This was the last warm day and I fully took advantage of wearing shorts and short sleeves while I still could. An unplanned bonus was that I was wearing all blue, Morgan wore all purple and Matt was in all green. A color fact I thoroughly enjoyed.

Planning a gallery wall

As I mentioned in my last post, we recently had our family photos taken and my next step is to make prints and a physical album. I'll also use them for Christmas cards this year too. It's so important to print your pictures so that you can look at them often and truly enjoy them.

I've been planning a gallery wall of 9 square frames. This is the best way to maximize prints and create a beautiful statement wall that we can stand in front of and just be totally immersed in happy thoughts - at least that is the hope! My next step is decide on frames. Originally, I wanted all white but have since been thinking about gold or silver. Here are a few options, though I don't think I've found the one just yet. If anyone has any good recs I would really appreciate it!

Facebook

Recently, I activated my Facebook account after having it deactivated for over 2 years. In the moment it was very clear why I reactivated it but now it's a little foggy. I think just to check out some of the new groups and to enhance my internet stalking activities. I have a few takeaways from my experience so far.
First, Facebook creates fake connections with people you don't really know. It creates a false sense of knowing someone when you don't. You may not be aware of it but take a year or two break from the network and then rejoin. Because I wasn't actively seeing some people on a regular basis in my feed I completely forgot who they were. Like, I literally have no idea who these people are and they just liked my return to Facebook status. Communicating with people I kind of know in real life but not really is now awkward and strange. It's much different than the communicating that happens on Instagram.

Second, I really don't care what anyone is doing on Facebook.

Third, the app was on my phone for a hot second before I promptly deleted it and the new messenger app that goes along with it. I realized I was randomly checking it out of boredom. Like, can't get out of bed in the morning so let's just press this button and see what happens.

Honestly, my life was just fine without it. I loved not living in that world. I will likely deactivate it because although that means virtually nothing, it's enough of a barrier for me to not visit the website at all. For now, I'm still there. A foreigner in a familiar place.

Life Inspired by Instagram

Instagram is my go-to app for boredom and inspiration. I've talked about it a ton, I know, but I love it.  Sometimes it is too easy to let this wonderful form of inspiration bring you down because it's so easy to compare and feel less then when you see all those awesome people doing awesome things.
Since diving headfirst into building my own beautiful feed I've found that process alone has inspired me to get out and actually do stuff. So what if the whole reason I took a ferry to Whidbey Island and explored alone with my kids was so that I could have some new material to share! It doesn't matter if my motivation was silly because the end result was that I got to have an entire adventure day just me and my two kids. We walked around Langley on their schedule, not mine, because I had no motivation other than to just be in the moment with them and take pictures wherever we were. We ate ice cream and enjoyed the beauty that is the Pacific Northwest.

Did my Instagram become prettier, yes. Did I have material to share on my blog, yes. Did I have a great, positive day with almost no parent vs. child frustrating moments, yes!! Does my kid still talk about Langley, yes!!

I've also loved taking time to style and design pretty pictures. I don't want to just consume other people's content, I want to make time to create myself. So thank you to Instagram for inspiring me to get out and enjoy life, to push myself to create more and to share.
