Five Minute Friday: Lift

I recently have decided to join a blog link party whose topic changes each week. The word of this week is LIFT and I will now write about it for 5 minutes.

Let me start this off by saying the immediate thought that comes to mind is hitchhikers. They need a lift. Hitchhiking is not something I have ever seriously considered partly because I have never needed to catch a random ride and partly because even if I did need a ride I'm not the adrenaline seeking risk taker that would dare hop in some strangers truck.

I've been following a girl on Instagram who is hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. She started in April at the southern terminus at the Mexican border and a few days ago has made it to the Oregon border. This is wild. She needs a lift anytime she goes off the trail to a nearby town. This is frightening. A physical lift in which she can sit on a soft seat. She completely relies on the kindness of strangers and I can tell from her stories that the emotional lift she is given by these strangers is a gift she will carry with her for the rest of her life.

That's my story for the week. Though I probably should have written about how God is my lift or something but I haven't learned to really lean into that yet and I've been letting myself sit in a place of negativity to be honest.

  1. I heard of a guy last night doing a similar hike, from Canada to New Mexico with only with a backpack. Apparently he does this fairly regularly, sometimes he takes his dog who has custom hiking boots. Not sure I'm adventurous enough to hitchhike, especially with the crazy people in the world these days. Jumped in behind you at FMF this week. Have a great weekend!

  2. Hey :) you stopped by my blog from fmf so I thought I'd come check yours out! I know about sitting in a pit of negativity and how hard it is to lean into God and let Him lift you out. Of the fear, anxiety, depression. But I do know how His kindness comes through His body, the people that give their to learn about your story, give encouragement, be your friend. Grieve with you.

If you every need an ear, know I'm here and you can email me whenever or message me on insta: jspar002.

I know God will lift you out of the negativity. Maybe slow because He is very very VERY patient, but He will. Because He loves you and He is faithful to the faithless. ☺️

  3. I hitch-hiked once, when I was a teen-ager. Long time ago! It was a middle-aged man driving, and when I got in the car I noticed that the passenger-side inside door handle had been removed. This was not good.

Fortunately, by this time I was carrying a piece, and when we came to a stop sign I reached into my pocket and thumbed the hammer back, so he could hear it.

Transferring my apprehension was kind of good, and he let me out. Guess he wanted to live.
